Dr. King Weighs in on Education Reform


All those years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. looked into the future and delivered a warning and castigation to the education reformers he seemed to have known would some day trumpet testing as the cure to all education’s ills.

This quote is one that the Duncans, Bloombergs, Obamas, Rhees, Kleins, Christies, Cuomos and others should recall as they “honor” King’s legacy today:

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically… Intelligence and character – that is the goal of true education.
